The two titans of modern hip-hop have dropped their latest albums. Kanye’s Yeezus and Jay’s Magna Carta Holy Grail have been released to hashtagging hysteria, providing valuable pixels and paragraphs for the commentariat. Of course, along with any new album from Yeezy or the Hov comes the inevitable re-mix and mash-ups. Here are two of the best:
First up is the Nate Belasco mash-up of Kanye West’s “Black Skinhead” with Australian indie trio Tame Impala’s “Elephant”. Fuzzed out guitars and offbeat rhythms blend to create an unexpected cocktail of awesome:
Next up is the just-released twerk edit by Grandtheft and Skratch Bastid of Jay-Z’s “Somewhere in America”. Jay’s original features a shout-out to Miley Cyrus, with the lyric “Miley Cyrus was still twerkin.” The remix, simply titled “Miley”, samples Jay-Z’s beat and lyric but turns the hip-hop song in to a club and party banger. I’ve had it on repeat at work and we aren’t sick of it yet.
