Martin Scorsese’s latest film is The Wolf of Wall Street and the trailer is insane, excessive and wonderful. Based on the memoir by Jordan Belfort, it tells the story of his corrupt, hard partying life as a stockbroker. Belfort was indicted in 1998 for securities fraud and money laundering. After cooperating with the FBI, he served 22 months in federal prison for a pump and dump scheme, which resulted in investor losses of approximately $200 million. The film reunites Scorsese with Leo DiCaprio for their fifth creative endeavour. DiCaprio looks like he’s having fun in this tale of excess and corruption – and it’s perfect territory for Scorsese to explore with his idiosyncratic narrative and visual style. Oh, and as you’d expect from Scorsese, the soundtrack isn’t bad either! Kanye West’s “Black Skinhead” sets the tone perfectly.
