The Tree of Life – Trailer

16 Dec

So here is something special. Terence Malick is like Hollywood’s answer to literature’s JD Salinger. In a career spanning decades, the reclusive director has directed only four (superb) feature films (Badlands, Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line and The New World). 2011 will see the release of his fifith: The Tree of Life. Starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain, The Tree of Life tells the story of a tense father-son relationship and its effect upon the child’s adult life. Pitt plays a stern 1950s parent who wants the best for his kid, but pushes too hard to get it. As the boy all grown up, Penn portrays a lost soul stuck in a fog, searching for meaning and answers in today’s modern world. The two minute trailer of The Tree of Life packs a punch and has all the hallmarks of a classic Malick film: visceral, poetic imagery, whispered narration, and men searching for meaning.
