WATCH + LISTEN

06/02/09 – Chester French – She Loves Everybody

Massachusetts-based duo Chester French get all cutesy with babes and knuckledusters. Pharrell likes them so much he reportedly signed them to Star Trak. There is something a bit Alex Turner in the lyrics and the lilt of this guys voice. Me likey.

06/02/09 – Airborne Toxic Event – Sometime Around Midnight

I saw these guys a week or two back when they played live on Letterman and had to share! Apart from having a radtastic name, they sound damn good.

04/12/08 – Jay-Z + Santogold – Brooklyn Go Hard

Learn more about this video here.

04/12/08 – Tame Impala – Half Full Glass of Wine

Psychedelic rock from some lads in Perth.

05/11/08 – M.I.A. – Down in the Hole

M.I.A. is one of my fave artists and The Wire is my fave TV Show so, naturally, I love this track. The Bonafide Hustler and Blaqstarr colabbed for this mash up/cover of Tom Waits’ Down in the Hole. The vid was reportedly thrown together for $9.95.

30/10/08 – Beck – Gamma Ray Redux

Beck’s new Gamma Ray video features style icon Chloe Sevigny shimmying in a top hat and just being, well, like, you know, supercool. Enjoy!

29/10/08 – Empire of the Sun – Walking on a Dream

The Sleepy Jackson’s Luke Steele and Pnau’s Nick Littlemore have teamed up to create Empire of the Sun. The sound is psychedelic. Phoenix + MGMT = Empire of the Sun.

10/10/08 – Lykke Li & Bon Iver – Dance Dance Dance

Lykke Li mixes her adorable playground scats and spoken-word whispers with the lo-fi neo-soul/folk of Bon Iver. The pair met up in LA and it was a match made in indie heaven. There is something indelibly sexy about kooky Swedish girls. <sigh>

5/10/08 – Janelle Monae – Many Moons

Andre 3000 + Shirley Bassey = Janelle Monae. My mate Seiji tipped me off on Janelle. In his words “this girl is hotter than my bath water”. I concur.

26/09/08 – The Do – On My Shoulders

Cute Franco-Finnish pop with a bit of bite. I love this girls voice!

 21/09/08 – Ladyhawke – Paris is Burning

80s infused pop rock with big production, big choruses and big synths. She’s a Kiwi but - just like Crowded House and Russell Crowe - Australia is claiming her as our own.

13/09/08 – Shad – The Old Prince Still Lives at Home

Learn more about Shad here.

05/09/08 – Prototypes – Je Ne Te Connais Pas

Dirty Parisian electro pop. The clip is directed by Oliver ‘Twist’ Gondry – brother of famed film director, Michel. This song is destined to be number one on my playlist.
