I’ve admired the work of local Canberra-based photogrpaher Lee Grant for some time. Her series of photos titled Oriental Dinner got a lot of well-deserved exposure on the internet. Lee’s work chronicles the geography and the people of suburban Canberra – in all it’s unmanicured glory. Lee is undertaking a Masters in Research at the Australian National University in the department of Photography and Media Arts. She returned to photography after a 10-year domestic hiatus, and in between pursuing children, pets and bill-paying jobs, now goes on suburban safaris where she meets and photographs all kinds of interesting people and places. These photos are from her series Belco Pride. Having grown up in the Belconnen area of Canberra, these images really resonate with me. Lee will be showcasing her talents as part of the You Are Here program.
